What is Hardwood Floor Refinishing?

Hardwood Floor Refinishing is the process of restoring the surface layer of a hardwood floor to improve its appearance. We use the sandless refinishing method, suitable for floors made dull or worn out by minor scratches and abrasions. 

Refinishing involves lightly screening the floor with a mesh abrasive pad attached to a rotating floor buffer. Screening removes the top layer of the existing finish together with any minor imperfections.

Then, a new polyurethane coating is applied to a clean and prepared floor. Known in the flooring industry as “screen and recoat," this process improves the look of the flooring and extends the floor’s lifespan by adding a new protective barrier against wear and tear.

 Sandless Refinishing is a quicker, less invasive option than traditional sanding methods, but even sandless refinishing creates some dust, albeit manageable.

Our average price range is between $2.65 and $4 per square foot. Some flooring companies charge a minimum fee of around $1000. While we do not charge a minimum per se, the cost of a Hardwood Floor Refinishing project will likely start around that price, given the size of an average main floor with hardwood.

The length of time taken will depend on the type and size of the job, but we will provide a time frame when estimating.

Some companies offer 1-Day Hardwood Floor Refinishing, and while some jobs can easily be finished within a day, we will not make such a sweeping statement (pardon the pun!). It is important to us that we do not rush any job and allow each polyurethane coating time to dry.

The length of time a Refinish of your Floors lasts will depend on the amount of wear and tear they experience. Nevertheless, with Sandless Hardwood Floor Refinishing, we suggest that, on average, they be refinished every 5-7 years.

Why Professional Hardwood Floor Cleaning is Essential?

3. Scheduling the Job and Preparation—We will work with you to book a convenient time for the service and advise on any preparation needed.
4. Removing Residue Build-Up—Any residue on the floor is removed using a specialized odour-free cleaning agent and a scrubber.
5. Deep Clean of the Floors—For the Floor Cleaning, we use portable extraction equipment and specialty brushes to simultaneously agitate and clean the floor. Minimal water is used to avoid any damage to the floor.
6. Buffing the Floor – A 175 Spinner with a special buffing pad enhances the floor’s final finish.
